Planting Seeds in Our Community

Last week the All Saints Family Care residents, staff and neighborhood children planted this years community garden. The kids and residents enjoyed petting alpaca and sheep and getting their hands dirty with planting. The fresh vegetables grown in the garden will be used in our community cooking classes. The community garden helps local kids learn to plant, grow, cook and eat healthy food. We are looking forward to another healthy growing season. [Show as...

Once again the Family Care Center was transformed into a holiday setting. While our staff works together every day, we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate the Holidays together. Playoff Pay Back

Playoff Pay Back

The NFL football play-offs generated a bet between our own Dr. Beth Damitz (an ardent Lions fan) and residency coordinator Julie Delahaut (a rabid Packers fan). The winner of the Packer/Lions game would be free to decorate the loser’s office door. The decorations would need to be retained until the winner’s team was eliminated from the play-offs. Julie’s victory was complete and she decorated Dr. Damitz’s door with gusto. Dr. Damitz is reminded of her folly whenever she enters her...

Family Care Center transformed into holiday restaurant

On the wintry evening of December 3rd, the conference room at the Family Care Center was transformed into a holiday restaurant in hopes of giving some special patients a unique dining experience. Equipped with handmade menus, the “wait staff” consisted of med students, residents from the Family Care Center and the creators of the project themselves. The dinner was dreamt up by Dr. Reema Shah, second year resident and Kelsey Prestby, nurse Jenny’s youngest daughter studying dietary and food science. Residents were given fancy...

Innovative Patient Education

Early this month, twelve of our patients with a diagnosis of hypertension whose blood pressure (BP) had not been controlled, attended an innovative group visit. The visit had three components.  The first was educational.  Patients were educated about the causes of hypertension and how it can be controlled by Dr. Josh Bettner, one of our 3rd year residents.  The second component involved relaxation and mindfulness led by our integrated behavioral psychologist, Dr. Heather Martens.  Pre and post blood pressure readings demonstrated that...

All Saints Residents Bring Halloween Fun to the Family Care Center

This week our residents pulled together to create a fun and spooky Halloween event for kids in our community. The party was complete with decorations, snacks and a great turn out of kids and families from our neighborhood. The residents even created spooky mystery boxes of werewolf hair, ogre eyeballs, and bat wings that the kids could put their hands in to take the fun to another sense. “It was a lot of fun to put together and the smiles made all of our work well worth the effort” said Dr. Kobayashi, 2nd year resident. Thanks to all of the...
