Curriculum

Curriculum And Call

At All Saints Family Medicine Residency, we pride ourselves on our curriculum that is designed to meet future health care delivery needs as well as your own needs and interests. Flexibility is the keystone of our dedication to your education. Our advanced obstetrics program is available to those who plan on doing obstetrics, with an abbreviated version for those who are not. During the last two years, residents may choose a focus area for additional training and experience, including urgent care, inpatient medicine, community medicine, geriatrics, women’s health and sports medicine. Elements essential to family practice training are taught longitudinally.

The first year consists of a combination of inpatient and outpatient experience. With a focus on continuity of care, residents develop a panel of patients in the Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Family Care Center beginning their first week of residency. First year call averages one night in four with one call free month over the course of the year. First year rotations include: inpatient medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, gastroenterology, emergency medicine, surgery, neonatology and orthopedics.

During the second year there is a transition to more outpatient-based training. Increasing time spent in the Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Family Care Center providing patient care. Call is now home call transitioning “real life” practice. Home call averages one night in six with one call free month over the course of the year. Second year rotations include: dermatology, pediatric emergency medicine, otolaryngology, psychiatry, surgery, family care center office, obstetrics, inpatient medicine, ICU and foci electives.

The third year completes the transition from residency to “real-life” practice. Residents spend half-days in clinic each week in patient care responsibilities and cover the Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Family Care Center practice while on call. Home call averages one night in six with one call free month during the year. Third year rotations include: cardiology, gynecology, outpatient pediatrics, urology, ophthalmology, obstetrics, inpatient medicine, orthopedics foci, and other electives.
